Online Dating & Courtship Safety Practices

On The Unplugged Network, our ultimate goal is to link you with your future spouse. We have outlined robust community guidelines to create an environment that promotes good conduct. Please be sure to review the community guidelines here and do not hesitate to report suspicious or inappropriate activity for staff to review. Our service fee helps weed out most potential spammers and scammers, but it is wise to be aware at all times. Your safety is our top priority.

Here is our crash-course on remaining safe in online spaces and beyond while searching for your future spouse.

General online safety:

  1. Block and report suspicious or inappropriate users. Your report will allow staff to review the offending profile, and may help others avoid trouble in the future.
  2. Never send or agree to receive money from other users, especially requests asking for financial assistance or promising favors in return for money.
  3. Report anyone you believe to be impersonating another individual, using someone else’s identity under false pretenses or catfishing.
  4. Always block and report anyone who threatens violence, intimidation, harassment or engages in stalking.
  5. Avoid specifying your exact location, address, place of work or other identifying details until after your relationship progresses to meeting in person.
  6. Never give an online romantic interest your social security information, credit card details, bank information, or login credentials.
  7. Block and report any user you suspect to be a minor. The Unplugged Network is for adults, 18+.

Meeting in person:

  1. Consider video chatting and speaking on the phone before planning to meet in person.
  2. Notify a trusted friend or family member when you attend a date or other special event. Include the time, location and when you plan to be home.
  3. Always meet in a public space first, rather than at the home of your prospective match.
  4. Don’t rely on your date for transportation when you first meet. Use your own vehicle, or another reliable method of transportation.
  5. Stay sober minded. Never drink excessively on a date, and avoid all other intoxicants to steer clear of vulnerable situations.
